Revs aggressive with roster moves for stretch run

The York Revolution have been busy over the last few weeks fine-tuning their roster for the stretch run, filling holes and adding depth in multiple areas with five recent additions.

York signed right-handed pitcher Troy Terzi on August 16 to help fill out the back-end of the starting rotation. Terzi is 1-0 with 16 strikeouts and only four walks in 18.2 innings of work in four starts. He earned his first professional win on August 26 when he worked 6.0 innings against Southern Maryland and logged three scoreless innings in his season debut on August 16 against New Britain. Terzi, 24, joined the Revs after two standout years at Division III Keystone College in Pennsylvania.

With a thinning bullpen, the Revs went out and signed left-handed pitcher Dustin Richardson a few days later. The former big-leaguer was handed the closer’s role right away and has converted all four of his save opportunities since joining the team. He’s posted a 3.55 ERA with 22 strikeouts and only four walks in 12.2 innings in 10 appearances.

Richardson has not allowed a run in his last seven innings, spanning six outings, with 12 strikeouts in that span. He worked 2.2 perfect innings with five strikeouts in his season debut on August 22. Richardson reached the Major Leagues with the Boston Red Sox in 2009 and 2010, owning a 3.31 ERA over 16.1 innings in a combined 29 appearances over the two seasons. The 6’6” southpaw started the 2017 season with Sugar Land before finishing with Long Island.

In immediate need for infield depth at the end of August, the Revs signed Steven Figueroa, who was with the New Hampshire Wild in the Empire League. Figueroa, 23, went 3-for-3 with the game-winning RBI double and a run in his season debut on August 24 and is 9-for-18 (.500 BA) with four multi-hit games, two RBIs and four runs scored in five games with the Revs.

The Revs stayed aggressive and used their first September out-of-league acquisition to bring in right-handed pitcher Jonathan de Marte, who spent each of the last two seasons with the Normal Cornbelters of the Frontier League. de Marte went 3-4 with a 2.87 ERA and seven saves in 44 relief appearances with Normal in 2018. He racked up 58 strikeouts in 53.1 innings with only 42 hits and 18 walks allowed. de Marte, 25, has logged two scoreless innings with two strikeouts since joining the Revs on September 4.

The Revs weren’t done adding to their bullpen though. The club used its second out-of-league acquisition on left-handed pitcher Austin Wright from the Gary SouthShore Rail Cats of the American Association on Tuesday, August 4. Wright was 1-1 with a 3.66 ERA in four games (two starts) and had 22 strikeouts in 19.1 innings with Gary.
