Revs Sign Catcher Marquez, Trade Marte to Blue Crabs
Shuffling the roster before a long plane ride to Texas, the York Revolution signed catcher Alex Marquez and traded outfielder Alfredo Marte to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, Revs manager Mark Mason announced on Thursday afternoon.
Marquez, 23, played two games for the Long Island Ducks last season. A native of Maunabo, Puerto Rico, Kansas City drafted Marquez in the 29th round of the 2010 MLB Draft. He spent four seasons in the Royals system and one in the Washington organization, beginning last season with the Kansas City T-Bones in the American Association. In five minor league seasons, Marquez hit .173 with four doubles and 23 RBIs.
The Revs sent Marte to Southern Maryland for a player to be named later. In 34 games for York this season, Marte hit .258 with four doubles, five home runs, and 14 RBIs.
The Revs initiated these transactions while on the way to Sugar Land for a four-game series with the Skeeters. At press time, this author can’t even begin to imagine the headaches of trying to figure how much it will cost to change the plane tickets.
