Ian Thomas makes Dodger Stadium debut (with video link)
After former Revolution LHP Ian Thomas (’12) was traded off the Atlanta Braves Major League roster to the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 27, he pitched in his first game with L.A. on June 2 at Colorado, becoming the first former Rev to play for two MLB clubs. He made his MLB debut with Atlanta last season.
Thomas, who between the Braves and Dodgers has been back and forth between Triple-A and the Majors four times already this season, was re-called from Triple-A Oklahoma City yesterday in time to pitch a scoreless eighth and ninth against the Phillies in a 7-2 loss. In his first appearance at Dodger Stadium (and his first official TV introduction by Vin Scully), Thomas faced seven batters without allowing a hit and walked one, and struck out Cody Asche in the eighth and Freddy Galvis to end the top of the ninth.
Here’s a link to video of that strikeout of Galvis: http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/8878728/v239613083
If you’re hoping to see Ian Thomas pitch in person, the Dodgers visit Washington for three games July 17-19, and have a six-game swing through Pennsylvania August 4-6 at Philadelphia and August 7-9 at Pittsburgh. Hopefully the back and forth for Thomas is over, and finally gets an extended big league look with L.A. His performance last night certainly didn’t hurt his cause.
