List of Revs with MLB relatives
By our count, when LHP Shawn Teuful signed with the Revolution prior to this season, he became the 18th Rev past and present who had a blood or close relative that played Major League Baseball. In five cases, both the relative and the Rev played in the Majors. The list:
OF Erold Andrus (2010): Brother of Texas Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus.
OF Steve Bumbry (2014): Son of longtime Orioles outfielder and coach Al Bumbry, who was also a coach for the Revolution in 2007.
OF Edgard Clemente (2008): Nephew of Hall-of-Famer Roberto Clemente. Edgard appeared in 114 MLB games between 1998 and 2000 with the Rockies and Angels.
2B Jose Enrique Cruz (2008): Nephew of longtime MLB outfielder Jose Cruz, cousin of his son, 12-season MLB outfielder Jose Cruz Jr.
3B Jake Daubert (2008): Daubert’s great, great grandfather, also Jake Daubert, played first base in the Majors for 15 seasons, from 1910 to 1924 for the Brooklyn Dodgers and Cincinnati Reds. The elder Daubert died at 40 immediately after his final season on October 9, 1924, after the Reds’ season had ended just days earlier on September 28.
RHP Jeff Farnsworth (2007): Brother Kyle has pitched in 16 MLB seasons for 10 different clubs. Jeff also enjoyed 44 MLB games with the Tigers in 2002.
RHP Dan Foli (2008-09): Son of Tim “Crazy Horse” Foli, an infielder who played in 16 MLB seasons for six different clubs. In 1979 Foli was traded mid-season from the Mets to the Pirates, and Pittsburgh defeated Baltimore and Al Bumbry to win the World Series.
RHP Daryl Harang (2009): Brother of current Phillies starter Aaron Harang, now in his 14th MLB season.
3B Vince Harrison (2010-11): Brother of current Pirates third baseman Josh Harrison. Vince is the hitting coach for the Class A Kane County (IL) Cougars of the Midwest League, in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization.
OF Kennard Jones (2008-09): Son-in-law of the late Hall-of-Famer Tony Gwynn. Jones, who was drafted by the Padres in 2002, spent five years in that organization as a minor leaguer.
1B Kala Ka’aihue (2009): Brother Kila Ka’aihue is currently at Triple-A Syracuse with the Nationals. Kila played in 126 MLB games between 2008 and 2012 with the Royals and A’s.
2B/OF Eric Patterson (2013-15): Brother Corey Patterson played in 12 MLB seasons from 2000-2011 with the Cubs, Orioles, Reds, Nationals, Brewers, Blue Jays and Cardinals. He retired following the 2013 season, split between the Yankees and Mariners Triple-A clubs. Eric is a veteran of 226 MLB games between 2007 and 2011 with the Cubs, A’s, Red Sox and Padres, but unfortunately his time in Chicago did not overlap with Corey’s. The elder Patterson’s last season with the Cubs was 2005.
OF Tike Redman (2007): Brother Prentice Redman, currently an outfielder for the Long Island Ducks who has also played with Bridgeport, appeared in 15 games for the Mets in 2003. Tike played in 432 MLB games between 2000 and 2007 with the Pirates and Orioles, appearing in 40 games for the Orioles in 2007 after beginning that season with York. He was the first former Rev to have his contract purchased by an MLB club, and the first to reach the Majors.
1B P.J. Rose (2009): ’09 proved to be the final professional season for the son of hit-king Pete Rose, at age 39. He received his only MLB cup of coffee, 11 games with the Reds, in 1997.
OF Justin Singleton (2007): Son of Ken Singleton, current Yankees broadcaster and 15-year MLB outfielder and longtime Oriole.
C Luis Taveras (2007-09): Older brother of the seven-season Major League veteran outfielder of the Astros, Rockies, Reds and Nationals between 2004 and 2010. The younger Taveras now makes his home in the Houston area, and is playing for Sugar Land.
LHP Shawn Teuful (2015): Son of current Mets third base coach Tim Teufel, who played in 11 MLB seasons including the Mets 1986 World Series Championship year.
1B Chad Tracy (2013-14): Son of former MLB manager Jim Tracy, who skippered the Dodgers, Pirates and Rockies between 2001 and 2012. The elder Tracy also played in 87 MLB games between 1980 and 1981 with the Cubs. Chad now manages the Angels Class A affiliate in the Midwest League, the Burlington (IA) Bees.
