Cody breaks Revs’ single season wins record
Chris Cody broke the York Revolution single season wins record with his 15th victory of the season, as the Revs won their series opener against the Sugar Land Skeeters, 4-2 on Tuesday night at Constellation Field. Cody (15-8) eclipses the previous record of 14 wins established by teammate Corey Thurman last season when Thurman broke his own record of 13 wins from the year before. It marks the third consecutive season that a Revs pitcher has set a new franchise best for wins in a season.
The Revs gave Cody the lead in the top of the fourth when Salvador Paniagua launched a two-run homer to left field breaking a scoreless tie.
Sugar Land sliced into that lead in the bottom of the sixth when Travis Scott kept the inning alive with a two-out bloop single, allowing Steve Moss to rope an RBI single to left bringing the Skeeters within 2-1. Scott was thrown out attempting to score the tying run on the play, however, as left fielder Matt Spencer picked up his eighth outfield assist since joining the Revs, tied for the team lead.
After leaving runners in scoring position in three straight innings, the Revs finally added to the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the ninth. Kody Kirkland rapped a one-out double to left-center and scored on Ofilio Castro’s single to right for the first run, while Chad Tracy blooped an RBI single to center with two outs to increase the lead to 4-1. Skeeters center fielder Adam Godwin was forced to exit due to injury after coming up short on his diving attempt on the play.
A pair of singles chased Cody with one out in the ninth, but Stephen Penney nailed down his sixth save, retiring pinch-hitter Josh Pressley on a groundout to short to end it, right after pinch-hitter Brian Burgamy had chopped an RBI single into right-center to make it a 4-2 game and bring the winning run to the plate.
