After being absent from the lineup since the Revolution returned home, the coaching staff has confirmed that third baseman Ramon Castro has been released from his contract. Castro last appeared in a game for York on August 29 at Southern Maryland, a 4-1 win. The coaching staff said it was a “team issue.”
In Castro’s absence, Chris Nowak and Joe Thurston have played third. Expect that to continue. Liu Rodriguez may also get some time at the corner.
The transaction reduces the Revolution roster to 23. It had been 24 by design – the extra spot was left open for the possible addition of another pitcher in September for the stretch run/playoffs. While that is still likely true, Castro’s release will force the Revolution to search for another position player on short order, as they have just one position player on the bench at the moment, two if you count the second catcher.
Any player news, we’ll post right here.
