Because nobody has mentioned Matt DeSalvo in a while
On May 12, 2007, America’s favorite biology teacher, noted Buffalo Bills fan, Revolution right-hander and free spirit Matt DeSalvo earned his first MLB win for the Yankees against the Mariners in Seattle, tossing 87 pitches in 6.2 innings allowing two earned runs in a 7-2 victory. He even turned a 1-6-3 double play with DEREK JETER (who happened to go 3-for-5 in that game) and Doug Mientkiewicz (?) who was somehow playing first base for the Yankees at the time. That effort earned DeSalvo the coveted post-game interview with Kim Jones of the YES Network. Here’s the clip, it was…interesting.
And yes, Doug Freaking Mientkiewicz snuck his way into 72 games with New York that season. Who knew?

As it turns out, Matt has nine career MLB at-bats. Seven with the Yankees in ’07, and two more the following season with the Braves in ’08. He is 0-9 life time as a big-league hitter, but most of that is just bad luck. He did not strike out in any of those at bats, making contact every time.
